The grapes for the local Riesling Kabinett wine come from the hillsides in Pünderich. The grapes were harvested at the beginning of the harvest. The balance of ripeness and acidity is crucial for this style of wine. Cooling stops the alcoholic fermentation at approximately 7.5% vol. The final wine contains 48.8g/l of residual sugar, flanked by a crisp 9.6g/l of acidity.

Nose

Kabi-Love… The 2023 Riesling Kabinett from Pünderich by Clemens Busch combines so much heritage like few other wines. Pure Riesling fruit with abundant attributes of its slate soil and pure Moselle. Fruit, honey sweetness, and freshness, all combined with Busch’s herbal intensity in the wines. The ripe grapes provide an aromatic reminder of grapes, their skins, and their sweet juice. A hint of honey hangs in the air. But there are also distinct accents of peach, ripe pear, and yellow apples. It displays a distinct note of wet, dark slate – its homeland. Behind this, a wall of herbal aromas builds up. Lemon balm, thyme, sage, mint, and coriander dominate the picture.

Palate

This intense interplay of aromas continues on the palate. With active acidity and thus a much lower sugar content, it appears fresh and has a strong drinking flow. It benefits from its stony substratum, so that the minerality takes over here. Fruit, acidity, freshness, and its length are in harmony. Its sweetness is charming and makes the fruit appear bright and luminous. The aromas from the nose reappear almost identically here. The herbs from the nose also smell intensely in the finish.

Its nose is all flint and smoke, with just a touch of lemon. The palate is light, charming and elegant with a most delicious, slaty citrus flutter. This is a butterfly that spreads joy with every wingbeat. The depth of citrus takes center stage, scenting everything around it with its charm. There’s so much verve and joy here, setting 47.9 g/L of residual sweetness against 9.6 g/L of acidity. (Medium)
