Wine Information

The slopes of the Pündericher Marienburg face south, southwest, or southeast, guaranteeing optimal sunshine. The soil consists largely of weathered gray slate. The vines are over 30 years old and survive dry periods without problems. For the Spätlese Goldkapsel, Clemens Busch selects highly ripe grapes with a botrytis content of approximately 10 percent. The grapes are spontaneously fermented in old Fuder barrels, cooled at an alcohol content of approximately 7.5% vol., and removed from the lees. The Prädikat wines are usually bottled in May.

Nose

The 2023 Marienburg Riesling Spätlese Goldkapsel still seems somewhat closed in its youthful stage, with a carpet of compact minerality that is still beautifully present at the moment. After a lively decantation into the carafe, dreamy aromas of apple, lemon, sweet pear, ripe pineapple, blossom honey, and elderberry open up. All the aromas are multifaceted and delicately interwoven, enchanting with their fragrance and elegance. A true masterpiece is about to emerge.

Palate

On the tongue, it is the pronounced minerality framed by the juicy, bright fruit and the multifaceted, pronounced, yet elegant sweetness that take center stage here. A masterpiece that thrives on a fantastic interplay of sweetness and acidity and is made to last forever. If you want to enjoy it in its youthful stage, you should definitely decant it; it will definitely benefit from many more years of storage.

The 2023 Pündericher Marienburg Spätlese Goldkapsel was made without botrytis, with grapes from Falkenlay and Fahrlay within the Marienburg that were too advanced in ripeness for the GG. Supple peach and vivid lemon are set against slate on the nose. It fizzes away, spraying sweetness, clarity and stoniness. There is no weight, just exquisite lightness, ease and elegance. It dances, pirouettes, tip-toes and ruffles its tutu. This is simply wonderful and so zesty. Despite all of its playfulness, it should be taken seriously. The 2023 will shine for decades. (Sweet)
