Julia Bertram and Benny Baltes have been a couple for a long time and formed a dream team for years at the Klingenberg town winery (later renamed Weingut Benedikt Baltes). Now they have decided to return to their home in the Ahr region and concentrate fully on Julia’s parents’ winery. The balancing act between Franconia and the Ahr proved too great. Now they will implement their ideas of organic viticulture on the extremely steep slopes around Dernau. They converted in the very first year; the goal is biodynamic certification, and both dream of being able to implement permaculture with sheep in the vineyard here. The winery boasts some of the best locations on the Ahr, and Benny conjures up very fine Pinot with depth, always balanced, never loud, but always full of expression and enjoyable to drink. For us, the new star in the sky above the Ahr.

Wine Information

The hand-picked grapes were spontaneously fermented in local oak barrels and then bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Colour

Muted garnet red, almost colour-dense to the rim with delicate violet highlights.

Nose

The aroma reveals cassis, wild raspberries, wild herbs, tree bark, and cocoa. With the necessary oxygen, its cool, mineral notes and floral fragrance emerge. This is a true seducer in the glass, promising plenty of Burgundian finesse. The joy of the first sip is immediately awakened.

Palate

On the tongue, the 2022 Ahrweiler Rosenthal Spätburgunder is incredibly invigorating, silky, and rich in finesse. This wine floats, and not only because of its sweet fruit, polished tannins, and refreshingly cool minerality. A wine for eternity, it will delight fine and complex cuisine. It has excellent aging potential! Enjoy lightly chilled, decanted from Burgundy glasses.
