Product description for Andres&Mugler Cuvée Elena Sekt Brut Nature 2019 (bio)
Colour
Bright golden yellow with very active perlage
Nose
Cuvée Elena from the 2019 vintage fluctuates between worlds. Light and dark. Spicy and fresh. Yellow and green. Cold and warm. The fruit is blessed with healthy ripeness. It has a yellow-fruity and intense aroma. Mirabelle plum, khaki, and peach are memorable. At the same time, the fruit also experiences a cool finesse. In addition to the aforementioned fruits, delicate herbal aromas repeatedly add touches. Sage and lemon balm stand out. Fennel and pea also provide a green, more vegetal component. The influence of the yeast is not so prominent. But it is certainly recognizable. White pepper, apricot tart, and cinnamon echo in the background. A hint of sea breeze lends it a cool freshness.
Palate
On the palate, it reveals its full energy and elegance. The carbonation initially ensures a harmonious opening. The fruit and spice come through in unison. Then the acidity snaps, revealing its mineral framework. Lemon balm and sage, in particular, make their presence felt again and support this stony, cool moment very, very well. Its salty finish significantly reinforces the associations with the sea breeze. And the aftertaste fluctuates again: green and yellow. Ripe fruit and a cool mouthfeel. Cuvée Elena provides a great deal of variety.

Wine Advocate
Score: 94
Based on Chardonnay, Auxerrois and Pinot Meunier (Schwarzriesling), the 2019 Brut Nature Cuvée Elena opens with a fine, deep yet intensely aromatic, fruity as well as matured bouquet of ripe fruits (stewed and brown apples) intertwined with notes of nougat and years of lees aging. However, despite its complexity, there is stimulating freshness too. Disgorged early this year, this is a rich yet pure, saline and very elegant sparkling wine with great finesse and balance or even uplifted opulence in regards to complexity. I wouldn’t call this wine powerful, but it’s as persistent and relentless as it is fine, fresh and playful. The finish is salivating and reveals lemon-fresh notes. This is a beautiful aperitif and menu wine for many dishes. The price (25 euros ex-cellar) is almost a gift. 12% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in July 2024.
