Nose

The nose offers a brilliant and intense opening. Almond kernels, dried meadow herbs, hay, and oyster shell form an unusual but extremely harmonious combination. Ripe apricots and mirabelle plums. Clove and a hint of anise. Fennel and artichoke contribute abundant vegetal notes. Orange blossom and its zest round it off vociferously. Extremely Mediterranean. It appears tranquil and extremely harmonious. The aging potential of Garnacha Blanca is well known, and the wine is now reaching its peak.

Palate

With plenty of pull on the palate, it builds up the tension. It sets the bar high right away and knows how to shine. Powerful and with great intensity, it displays fruit, spice, and the finest minerality. The aromas on the nose are similarly pronounced. The herbal spice and almond are particularly prominent. The fine acidity structure carries this wine immensely, imbuing it with enormous elegance. The minerality is pleasant and restrained. Considering the hot, dry climate, it seems surprisingly cool. Full of finesse and length. A wine with still great potential, but the drinking window has already opened. The finish then returns to yellow fruit, herbal spice, and almond kernels.

The single-vineyard wines from Montsant are released with at least five years in bottle, even the whites, including the 2016 Trossos Tros Blanc Saleres, a pure Garnacha Blanca from a vineyard in the village of El Masroig close to the Siurana river that also has Macabeo (but not used in this wine). It fermented in two 500-liter oak barrels where it matured with the lees for 10 months. It has a golden color and notes of pollen and beeswax with some honey and caramel hints. It has moderate ripeness, 13.5% alcohol and a medium-bodied palate with pungent flavors and some chalky tannins. 1,214 bottles were filled in July 2017. This is ready now.
