Description
A Tros is as much as about an acre of land, but what is meant is the work that a winegrower can do in the vineyard in one day. The Catalan architect and winemaker Alfredo Arribas named his Tros or Trossos wines after this. It is his second wine line after Portal del Priorat. In contrast to Clos del Portal or Portal del Priorat, however, the Trossos wines are made exclusively from grapes from Montsant. He has excellent vineyards at his disposal for this purpose. These include El Masroig’s oldest vineyard, planted with Grenache Blanc and a unique Grenache Noir clone, as well as very old Grenache Blanc vines in Marçà and old Carignan vines in El Masroig. As with his other projects, the vines are farmed biodynamically and vinified with little intervention. The terroir here is clearly different with limestone, red clay, and sand.
