Product description for Albert Mann Riesling Wineck-Schlossberg Grand Cru AC 2022 (bio)
Domaine Albert Mann is the merger of two great winemaking families: the Mann family, who have been growing wine since the early 17th century, and the Barthelmé family, the current owners, who have been active in the winemaking industry since 1654. Located in Wettolsheim on the Alsace Wine Route, each plot of the 25-hectare estate is individually cultivated according to organic and biodynamic principles. The grapes for the Wineck-Schlossberg Grand Cru come from the municipality of Katzenthal, from one terraced hectare with a northeast exposure and sandy soils that always produce crystalline wines. Wineck-Schlossberg reflects the terroir through the minerality and salinity of its wines. The average vine age is approximately 45 years.
Colour
Rich golden yellow, bright and clear.
Nose
The nose of Albert Mann’s 2022 Wineck-Schlossberg Riesling Grand Cru is joyfully fruity, diligently declining all the aggregate states of citrus, from blossom to candied orange peel. Added to this are notes of quince, braised pineapple, mild spices, and a flake of full-fat salted butter. The wine has a crystalline appearance with distinctly saline notes.
Palate
“Salt!” screams the palate on first sip, and repeats at the top of its lungs: “Salt!” A zesty appearance with a clear statement, which the fruit also happily follows. The citrus is equally zesty, at this stage of ripeness often taking the form of grapefruit and its oils, which easily hold the reins for the salt. In other words: everything here is taut, nothing wobbles or indulges in populist fruit gum. Pomace, extract, phenolics, and bass are the benchmarks for this still damn salty Riesling. A sturdy fellow, needs a universal glass!

Score: 93
The 2022 Alsace Grand Cru Wineck-Schlossberg Riesling opens with an intensely fruity but refined and floral bouquet with saline notes. On the palate, this is a round and generously lush but very elegant, refined, saline and finely tannic but balanced Riesling from granite soils. The finish is clear and stimulating. This is a very charming Riesling for those who fear the grape’s pronounced acidity. There are fine tannins here instead of a raciness, and the acidity, after malolactic fermentation, comes ripe and crystalline, with mineral verve. 13% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in April 2024.
