Product description for Albert Mann Riesling Schlossberg Grand Cru AC 2021 (bio)
Info
The Schlossberg vineyard in Kientzheim has been mentioned in literature since the 15th century. It has been recognized as a Grand Cru since 1975. Due to its very steep topography, the vineyard is arranged in terraces. The vines grow on granite, which is very rich and fertile. The vines are over 35 years old and fully exposed to the south. Fermentation and aging take place in steel tanks. The wine is allowed to mature on the full lees and is bottled unfiltered. The 2021 vintage is often compared to 1996 in Alsace. A dry year, marked by a very wet June. In August, the grapes began to develop a magnificent golden colour. A vintage full of fruit, but extremely low sugar yield and fine acid structures. In bare facts: 13.0% vol, 0g/l residual sugar, and an acidity of 7.7g/l.
Colour
Bright lemon yellow with light and green reflections
Nose
The 2021 Schlossberg Riesling from Albert Mann captivates with an incredibly subtle, long-lasting nose. Yellow apple, freshly cut Conference pear, and white peach open the wine. A touch of lemon and grapefruit provide freshness without overpowering the palate. Kaffir lime leaves and bergamot add accents. It benefits from a pleasantly fragrant ethereal spice. This is based on roasted fennel and coriander seeds, anise, fennel, and artichoke. Mint, nettle, chervil, and coriander, along with plenty of parsley, provide enormous herbal spiciness. White pepper adds a striking final touch.
Palate
And it is precisely this herbal freshness that is phenomenally conveyed on the palate. This herbal spice, almost menthol, but without the kitsch and with plenty of length. The fruit is currently struggling to come through, but this should change with maturity. It also appears precisely polished and lean, stretching over an enormous length. The citrus aromas then clearly characterize the finish. This concludes it in a harmonious spectacle that fluctuates between acidity, bitterness, and extract.

The 2021 Riesling Schlossberg Grand Cru charms with stone and peach, aromatic and surprisingly open. Clearly, the free-draining nature of the Schlossberg granite was a blessing in 2021. This is so strait-laced, so complete, so serene, so stony, so linear, absolutely pristine, stellar in fact. The fact that herbal savor plays around the nose and that peach makes a distant appearance is all by the by. This is a wine that explains why this is such a legendary grand cru: because it brings forth wine like this in a challenging vintage. Splendid. (Bone-Dry)
