Hohen-Sülzen lies in the so-called Eisbach Valley; and as the name suggests, the cold low mountain stream, which originates in the Donnersberg massif, exerts a significant influence on the cooler nights. The difference between day and night temperatures is greater in Hohen-Sülzen than in the other districts.

Nose

On the nose, the 2022 Hohensülzen Kirchenstück Riesling GG reveals powerful stone fruit notes of apricots, mirabelle plums, and vineyard peach, underscored by earthy and stony notes that lend it a certain coolness and depth. Smoky notes and numerous herbal aromas enrich the bouquet and increase its complexity. A monument of a wine that makes you want to lose yourself in the nose.

Palate

On the tongue, it packs a punch with juicy yellow fruit and citrus notes; its structure is characterized by a fine grip and salty notes, inviting more with every sip. A Riesling with invigorating freshness, fantastic fruit, iodine intensity, and depth. It has tremendous aging potential; don’t drink it too young. Be sure to aerate it and savour it from large glasses!

The 2022 Kirchenstück Hohen-Sülzen Riesling GG offers a pure, refined and elegant as well as juicy nose with very fine limestone notes. Supple and refined on the palate, this is a full-bodied, finely tannic and saline Riesling with a long, savory and grippy finish. This is a promising wine that will gain finesse with bottle age. 12.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in July 2023.

The 2022 Riesling Hohen-Sülzener Kirchenstück Grosses Gewächs is made from fruit next to the winery, on limestone with a thin loess cover. The nose has tropical overtones; ripe peach is overlaid with mango and lime. All this happens against a backdrop of creaminess. The palate has a lovely zestiness and a touch of passion fruit tartness. There is concentration, clarity and zesty length with a really extended and mouth-watering finish, not an ounce of fat, just clarity, cool depth and tons of lemon-framed stone fruit. (Bone-dry)
