Information about the Wine

Delivered to the Bavarian royal court in the 19th and early 20th centuries and celebrated in poetry, the Neustadter Vogelsang vineyard fell into obscurity due to speculation on building land. The magnificent natural surroundings and the resulting protected status thwarted the building plans. Thus, the vineyard came into the hands of Christmanns in 2017. One of the most exciting projects in many years in the Palatinate and far beyond. The soil consists of shell limestone that is more than 200 million years old, which came to the surface during the collapse of the Upper Rhine Graben and is unique in this form in the Mittelhaardt region. The vineyard slopes quite steeply to the south with an incline of up to 50%. Due to its location at the end of the Neustadt Valley, at an altitude of up to 260 m, there are large temperature differences between day and night, which create a great deal of excitement in the wine.

100% selective hand-picking in small crates, spontaneous fermentation in large wooden barrels.

Light golden yellow with delicate green reflections.

Nose

The 2022 Vogelsang Große Lage is fresh, multifaceted, and with a full mineral expression. Aromas of citrus fruits, apple, green pear, and fresh herbs. Underpinned by an intense minerality and cool, stony notes. A wine at the beginning of its development, which, due to its youth, still appears very reserved, but which gives rise to great hopes.

Palate

Crisp and sharp on the palate, with plenty of green apple and citrus, permeated by a salty hint, it is subtly stimulating. A wine that flirts and invites you to drink; fresh and lively dishes are a must! If you want to enjoy it in its youthful state, be sure to decant it and serve it not too cold in a sufficiently large glass.

The 2022 Riesling Neustadter Vogelsang Grosses Gewächs has been made as GG since 2020. It opens with a friendly, scented note of summer blossom tempered with gentle fennel seed spice. The palate is super smooth, yeasty and juicy. There is something insistently citric and at the same time cooling and balm-like. Once again, the finish is zesty and long. Lovely. (Bone-dry)
