Product description for Huet Le Mont demi-sec 2023 (bio)
Wine Information
The Le Mont vineyard lies above the tuff caves and east of the Huet winery on the first plateau of Vouvray, the so-called Première Côte, and faces south. The vineyard was first mentioned in the 15th century and has been highly valued ever since. Like the other vineyards, Le Mont, with its nine hectares, is solely owned by the Huet winery and was acquired by Gaston Huet in 1957 as the last of the three vineyards. It has a topsoil several meters deep with a pebbly, sometimes fist-sized flint, known locally as perron, and deep green clay. The base is the usual Turonian tuff limestone. In 2023, the vineyards in Vouvray were severely affected by Drosophila suzukii, the spotted-wing drosophila. This required rigorous quality management. Huet already has multiple harvests per vineyard for the individual Chenin Blanc varieties. This year, every single berry had to be inspected, and at least 25% of the harvest was discarded. As usual, the grapes were meticulously sorted, pressed, and spontaneously fermented during the multiple harvests. Malolactic fermentation only occurred in exceptional cases and in individual barrels. The wine was aged in used demi-secs. At Huet, Demi-Sec 2023 means between 20 grams of residual sugar.
Colour
Intense straw yellow
Nose
The 2023 Le Mont Demi-Sec presents itself as wonderfully delicate and seductive this vintage. While it offers, as always, the darkest notes, one doesn’t get the impression that one has to wait any longer for this wine, as is usually the case—although it is certainly worth putting it aside. The opening is dominated by blossoms and honey, yellow apples, quince, and white currants, a touch of caramel and smoke, followed by mint and verbena.
Palate
The 20 grams of residual sugar in the 2023 Le Mont Demi-Sec is, as is often the case, barely noticeable. The balance of residual sweetness and acidity, of depth and floating lightness, of dark spicy notes and white blossoms is perfect. Everything seems precise, with tension and density, yet at the same time lighthearted and playful, almost drinkable and mouthwateringly salty. A magnificent Demi-Sec!

Score: 94
The 2023 Vouvray Demi-Sec Le Mont boasts a residual sweetness (20g/l) that brings a sense of tenderness and amplitude to a terroir that’s big on precision and tension. The flint component in the soil and the natural freshness of the 2023 vintage provide persistence and momentum. Pure and tender, there’s a distinctive spearmint-like cooling sensation on the long finish.
