Product description for Familia Nin Ortiz “La Coma d’en Romeu”, Velles Vinyes 2021
Star oenologist Ester Nin launched this project in 2003 and immediately received top marks from international wine critics. Through her work as a bodega manager and oenologist at the Clos i Terasses (Clos Erasmus) winery, she has gained extensive experience in producing world-class wines. The Mas den Caçador plot, which forms the basis for Nit de Nin, is undoubtedly one of the most spectacular and best sites in the Priorat region. But this special location also takes its toll. Working in the vineyard is only possible with mules, which is no easy task given the extremely steep slope. The location of Finca Planetes is hardly inferior. Together with her husband, Carles Ortiz, she cultivates both plots entirely biodynamically.

The 2021 La Coma d’en Romeu is highly aromatic, with notes of thyme, rosemary and lavender, wild herbs and flowers, the smell of the vineyard and a common note through the vintages (and also present in the wine I tasted from the young vineyards, an experimental 2022 and the 2023 still aging that will be the first release). It also has a peachy and floral character with something more serious, a little earthy, hints of rusty nail, complex, also perfumed and elegant, with a balanced palate and beautiful texture

The 2021 La Coma D’En Romeu is a testament to the precision and skill of Nin Ortiz. Fermented with whole clusters, this 100% Garnatxa boasts highly expressive aromas of lavender, violets and herbs layered over a cherry-strawberry core. On the palate, it’s dry and lean, with a light, talc-like mouthfeel that conveys an ethereal and pure personality. Despite its delicate appearance, this wine possesses a subtle strength that gives it remarkable staying power. It’s a truly impressive wine.
