Sebastian Bordthäuser: With juicy fruit and mild spices on the palate, the wine quickly sets the tone: Controlled by its excellent tannin structure, it has an invigoratingly rough feel on the palate, driven by delicate spiciness. Its moderate acidity is finely interwoven and enveloped by its fine-grained texture. Juicy and ripe with a mellow tannin structure, it is a top all-rounder for spicy dishes. The Vins Nus series from Alfredo Arribas is a family of minimal-intervention wines from the north of the region. They come from high-altitude vineyards and are the radical alternative to Arribas’ wine lines from Montsant and Priorat. Characterized by controlled omissions, they are produced with virtually no oak barrels, without excessive extraction, without sulfites, and without enzymes. With a distinctive tannin structure as their backbone, they are designed for several years of bottle aging. Grenache Gris, a mutation of Grenache Noir, is a colour-intensive variety that, thanks to its affinity for oxidative aging, is ideal for orange wines. Often blended with Grenache Blanc or other local grape varieties, Arribas has replanted a 2-hectare vineyard in Gritella, Montsant, at a north-facing elevation. Grown at 760-820 meters on yellow, clay soils, the whole grapes were pressed after a four-hour maceration period and fermented spontaneously in amphorae and steel tanks.

Light orange with a satin sheen and slight cloudiness.

Nose

The nose of the 2019 Sirualta Gris from Alfredo Arribas’ Vins Nus series oscillates between fruit and spice. Dried apples and raisins form the foundation, while ethereal notes of orange zest add fresh accents. Light tobacco leaf, white pepper, wet chalk, and mace outline the spicy, distinctive character of this orange wine made from 100% Grenache Gris.
