The winter dragged on for a long time in 2022. However, spring began promptly and immediately with summery warmth. Bud break is therefore later, but all the faster than usual. Flowering was already reached in mid-June and was accompanied by great weather. A sunny and dry summer followed, taking its toll as early as the end of July. Numerous drought damages were detected in the young vineyards. August then brought the long-awaited cooler temperatures at night and good rainfall. With stable acidity levels, the fruit was still able to develop. A mixed, rainy September posed many challenges during the harvest. The two vineyards for this cuvée are located in Vienna’s Nussberg: Ried Ulm and Ried Weisleiten. The soil contains shell limestone weathering with subsoil limestone and a medium clay content. This Gemischter Satz consists primarily of Grüner Veltliner, Welschriesling, Weissburgunder, Riesling, and Traminer. After the harvest, the destemmed grapes are placed in amphorae for spontaneous fermentation. The wine matured on the skins in the amphorae for five months, which were simply refilled repeatedly. In March of the following year, the must and skins were carefully separated but not pressed. Once in stainless steel, the wine was allowed to rest for another six weeks before being bottled.

Bright golden yellow with slight cloudiness and light to orange reflections

Nose

The Natural variant of the Gemischter Satz impresses with abundant floral and pleasant, tart aromas. Orange, apple, and jasmine blossoms fill the air. Candied ginger and plenty of orange, lemon, and bergamot zest provide freshness paired with tart and sweet aromas. A touch of Turkish delight, powdered sugar, and rose water come to mind. Lightly brown apple and caramelized quince, as well as khaki and cantaloupe melon, provide very well-integrated, yet unobtrusive fruit. A hint of curry and turmeric, along with saffron, rounds this out beautifully.

Palate

The wine conveys its diverse aromas and versatility wonderfully to the palate. With power and plenty of drinking pleasure, it spreads a diverse carpet. The aromas from the nose come to the fore in a similar form. Its bitterness is very restrained and is wonderfully buffered by the fruit. It appears elegant and shows no wild escapes. Its fruit is clean and precise. With pleasant bitterness and very perfectly integrated tannins, it provides plenty of texture on the palate. The entire range of the nose is built up again in the finish.
