Wine Information

The Hengst Grand Cru vineyard is located in a warm, dry, and precocious area of Alsace, very close to Colmar and protected by the proximity of the Vosges Mountains. Its southeastern exposure enhances the effect of the sun, as the grapes are exposed to it early in the morning. Hengst never suffers from drought because the water reserves in the marly-limestone soils are sufficient, but this means that botrytis develops late, if at all. Often harvested at very ripe, Hengst is rarely a late harvest because the older vines are more resistant to the development of rot. When noble rot develops sufficiently, it allows for the production of magnificent late-harvest wines like this 2011.

Nose

A noble sweet revelation in the glass: The 2011 Gewurztraminer from Zind-Humbrecht displays candied oranges, dried apricots, juicy peaches, mango, fir tips, dried rose petals, honey, and ginger in their purest form. Crystal-clear and intense, everything flows from the glass and is subtly enchanting.

Palate

Lively freshness and pronounced minerality pair with intense sweetness; at the same time, it is incredibly stimulating and invigorating. A wine of one piece, with trembling aromas of fresh pineapple and delicate bitter orange notes on the nose. A wine made to last, boasting brilliant freshness, beguiling sweetness, and a spicy, mineral structure.
