Product description for Zind-Humbrecht Gewürztraminer Clos Windsbuhl 2013
Christina Hilker: Delicate sweetness pairs with fresh acidity, salty and profound minerality, and a structure that shows grip and grips. Light-footed yet impressive, that’s how Gewürztraminer should taste, especially one that you’ll want to enjoy another glass or two with fine food. The aftertaste is cool and fresh, a truly lively wine. Those impatient to open it now are advised to decant it at least a day in advance and not to enjoy it too cold from large Burgundy glasses.
Colour
Light yellow with bright green reflections.
Nose
Fragrant on the nose, with aromas of fresh pastries and doughnuts, with Tahitian vanilla in their cream filling. With sufficient air, the typical “spicy” notes emerge: floral elements of linden blossom, tropical fruit, mango, and lychee, as well as light balsamic notes of light spices like mace and yellow cardamom. The nose is balanced without any baroque influences.
Palate
On the palate, the 2013 Clos Windsbuhl Traminer is stringently focused. The cool location also ensures a taut presentation in the glass, without velvet, brocade, or other ornamentation. Crystal-clear Gewurztraminer aromas, the sweetness clearly carried by the firm minerality. It extends from the first sip to the long finish and offers what few drinkers associate with spice: drinking pleasure!

Picked with a little bit of botrytis, the late ripening 2013 Gewürztraminer Clos Windsbuhl shows a clear and highly elegant, very delicate, and subtle bouquet of lemon and orange zests, lime juice, crushed rocks, smoke and floral aromas. The nobly restrained and delicate character is also reflected on the palate, which is rather elegant and finesse-full than rich and powerful, and marked by the mineral freshness and lingering salty acidity that easily equilibriates the 34 grams of residual sugar. Very distinctive and stylish. A delicious Gewürztraminer.

Pale yellow. Crystalline aromas and flavors of lemon, apple, banana and grilled mango. Very bright and mineral in the mouth, showing an enticing lemony quality on the long, fresh finish. This wine conveys a lovely refined mouthfeel thanks to its lively acidity, making it a more elegant, less opulent Gewürztraminer than the norm. Has 34 g/l residual sugar and 5.7 g/l, but finishes surprisingly dry and lemony.
