In the Trarbach side valley, the Schlossberg stands on blue slate. The youngest vines there are 25 years old. The Schlossberg’s exposure is always southerly. Fermented with natural yeasts in large oak barrels, the wine is then transferred to steel tanks after racking. A lean 8% alcohol by volume meets a crisp 9.7 g/l acidity with 44 g/l residual sugar.

Colour

Silvery, shimmering straw yellow with light and green reflections.

Nose

The Trabach Schlossberg Riesling Kabinett appears playful and light-footed upon first contact. The fruit is typical of the grape variety and its origin. The stony character of the slate always prevails in the background: white peach, nashi pear, and yellow apple. The fruit is peppered with citrus accents. This creates fresh and tart moments. Fine herbal aromas in the form of lemon balm, lemon thyme, and mint provide plenty of freshness.

Palate

The palate seamlessly follows the impressions of the nose. It remains true to itself. Playful and fruity. Acidity and sweetness duel on equal terms. It appears grippy and compactly structured. A tart core clearly stimulates the swallowing reflex. Zesty and refreshing. The fine fruit sweetness flatters even the fine minerality. An incredibly light-footed Kabinett in the classic sense. Cool, fruity, and elegant. A contemporary textbook wine.
