Where else can you find terraced, steep slopes planted to 80% with self-rooted vines with an average age of 55 years?! The Weiser-Künstler winery relies on natural methods in the vineyard and wine cellar. Sensitive handling of the foliage and pickaxe work are just as important here as the avoidance of pure yeasts. This allows the weathered slate soils and the unique microclimate to find their perfect terroir expression in the Rieslings. To allow the wines to mature perfectly in character, they are aged for a long time on the fine lees until their late bottling. All of the winery’s wines, from light, dry Kabinett wines to noble sweet dessert wines, demonstrate wonderful aging potential and offer long-lasting enjoyment.

Information about the wine

Where else can you find steep, terraced vineyards that are 80% planted with ancient, self-rooted vines?! Ellergrub is one such location. Perhaps less well known than the great vineyards of the Middle Mosel, it nevertheless has the same potential for truly great Mosel Rieslings. But the other vineyards around Traben-Trarbach, such as Steffensberg, Gaispfad, and Sonnenlay, cultivated by Konstantin Weiser and Alexandra Künstler, also demonstrate how diverse and unique the terroir is. Organic farming, mostly by hand, and traditional, yet very gentle, cellar work are a matter of course. This is how Weiser-Künstler produces very fine, classic, and elegant Rieslings that are among the best in the region.

Aging in wood (100-liter barrels), racking and aging in stainless steel.

Colour

Light golden yellow with distinct green reflections.

Nose

Due to its youth, the 2022 Trabacher Schlossberg Riesling Kabinett is still somewhat shy and demands a carafe. After sufficient aeration, delicate apple and citrus notes, lemon balm, and a cool slate note emerge, lending it a touch of nobility.

Palate

Sweetness and acidity go hand in hand in this Kabinett. It practically floats over the tongue, with distinct earthy, slate, and peppery aromas lingering in the long finish. The acidity appears invigorating and very precise; it becomes exciting if you allow it a few years of aging, when its complexity will unfold even more clearly. At 7% ABV, it flows down the throat and leaves the joyful drinker wanting more! Be sure to decant!
