Wine Information

Where else can you find steep, terraced vineyards planted to 80% with ancient, self-rooted vines?! Ellergrub is one such site. Perhaps less well known than the great vineyards of the Middle Mosel, it nevertheless has the same potential for truly great Mosel Rieslings. But the other sites around Traben-Trarbach, such as Steffensberg, Gaispfad, and Sonnenlay, also demonstrate, through the work of Konstantin Weiser and Alexandra Künstler, how diverse and unique the terroir is. Organic farming, mostly by hand, and traditional, yet very gentle, cellar work are a matter of course. This is how Weiser-Künstler produces very fine, classic, and elegant Rieslings that are among the best in the region.

Information on the aging

Spontaneous fermentation without the use of clarifying agents or fining agents in 500 l stainless steel barrels (limited quantity in 2022). Racking also in stainless steel.

Colour

Light straw yellow with distinct green reflections.

Nose

The 2022 Enkircher Ellergrub Riesling Spätlese from Weiser Künstler is very complex and, at the moment, still youthfully closed. With oxygen, this wonderful wine opens up, and fine citrus notes, green apple, lemon balm, and elderflower emerge. What is even more striking, however, is the pure slate and the intense, stony minerality that characterize this wine. Smoky hints lend it nobility and complexity.

Palate

On the palate, a perfect Riesling Spätlese from the Mosel reveals itself. The subtle sweetness combined with refreshing acidity and delicate citrus and apple fruit, a delicate 7.5% ABV, further stimulates the drinking flow. A little patience is definitely required, as this wine will mature wonderfully over the next few years and reach perfection. Anyone who wants to enjoy this wine in its youthful state should definitely decant it; even one or two days in the refrigerator will enhance this fine wine!
