Description

Product description for Valfaccenda Roero bianco DOCG 2022 (bio)

Azienda Agricola Valfaccenda was founded in 2010 by Luca Faccenda and his partner Carolina Roggera in Canale. On the steep, sandy hills of the Roero, Luca and Carolina cultivate exclusively the indigenous Nebbiolo and Arneis grape varieties – firmly aware that only natively rooted grape varieties can authentically reflect their origins in the bottle. The two hectares of land they own are located around the winery near Canale, while additional land is leased on the hills of Le Rocche, the symbol of the Roero region, as well as in Vezza, Madonnna di Loreto in Canale, and San Grato in Santo Stefano. The soils of the Roero are composed of sand, which in ancient times formed the seabed of the Gulf of Padania and is sometimes found mixed with clay sediments. In 2014, Luca Faccenda applied for organic certification to ensure his vines enjoy the best conditions for an authentic expression of Roero. The grapes for the 2022 Roero come primarily from two vineyards near the village of Madonna di Loreto, in the Valle Faccenda, Loreto, and Mompellini. Since the vineyards have different soil characteristics, exposures, and vigor, Luca and Carolina strive to incorporate these characteristics into the harvest and winemaking process. The Roero consists partly of fermented juice from destemmed grapes and partly of fermented whole bunches, the proportions of which can vary depending on the vintage. After approximately one month of fermentation, the wine matures until it is fined and bottled unfiltered during the waning moon in late spring after the harvest. The first Roero was produced in the 2010 vintage.

Colour

Dark straw yellow, bright and clear.

Nose

Fermented on the skins and with a low sulphur content, the aging is also reflected in the nose of the 2022 Roero from Valfaccenda: youthful with musty and herbal-spicy notes, it is reminiscent of apple compote, green apricots, and yellow pears, supported by culinary herbs and slightly nutty notes. Stimulatingly authentic Arneis.

Palate

Stimulatingly tart with a dense texture and multi-layered aroma, the Arneis from Valfaccenda stands out pleasantly from the numerous smooth-ironed competitors. Powerful on the palate, it balances the joyful fruit with tart and again nutty aromas, with a touch of licorice providing additional extract. This has a good deal of fat on the palate, flanked by tart phenolics and gently pulsating acidity in the backbeat.
