Wine Information

The Valdemonjas winery has joined the ranks of the top wineries in Ribera del Duero, although its style differs from the well-known Ribera del Duero: The wines are more direct and unvarnished, with fewer oak notes and more freshness. The bodega’s top wine, Abri Las Alas, comes from a vineyard located over 800 meters above sea level with over 80-year-old Tempranillo vines, which are exposed to extreme temperature differences between winter and summer, as well as between day and night. The organically certified red wine first ferments in a small concrete tank and then matures for 19 months in French barriques.

The bouquet is subtle and expressive with fresh dark fruits and earthy, mineral notes. Discreet wood tones remain discreetly in the background, contributing to the complexity. The nose is truly captivating and wonderfully balanced.

The art lies in translating this power and concentration into elegance, precision, and balance. The Valdemonjas winery succeeds admirably with this red wine, and thus the Abri Las Alas 2022 combines everything that defines a top-quality wine. It also has juicy fruit, a velvety texture, and elegant tannins; it is energetic and vibrant on the palate with a long, animating finish. The wine always maintains its contours; it is by no means exuberant, but straightforward, subtle, and multi-layered. This is great cinema from Ribera del Duero.
