Product description for Trapet Alsace Riesling Schlossberg Grand Cru 2021 (bio)
Wine Information
This Riesling comes from the Schlossberg Grand Cru vineyard, north of Kientzheim and Kayserberg. The vineyard extends from an altitude of 230 to 350 meters. The Schlossberg is so steep that it has been terraced. The soil of the Schlossberg is primarily characterized by granite and a mixture of greywacke and sandstone. The northern part is influenced by Thannenkirch granite. The soils are extremely mineral-rich.
Colour
Light golden yellow with silvery reflections.
Nose
The aroma of the 2021 Schlossberg Riesling Grand Cru reveals beguiling freshness and mineral depth. Aromas of lime, sweet apricots, wild mint, ginger, blossoms, and candied lemon peel. Already on the nose, we are presented with a feast for the senses, full of expression and facets of rich freshness.
Palate
Its presentation on the tongue is concise, its razor-sharp acidity perfectly integrated with the fruit and melting mid-bodies, its finish long and characterized by saltiness, vibrant acidity, and fine tannins – a wine with a mega-future and a wonderful food companion. If you want to open it in its youthful stage, large glasses and a carafe will further enhance its appeal.

Score: 96
Based predominantly on old vines planted between the 1960s and 1990s and from very low yields (10 to 12 hectoliters per hectare) due to mildew, the 2021 Schlossberg Riesling is generous and intense but pure, coolish, very elegant and refined on the fragrant nose with its floral and lemony notes. Fermented in stainless steel, this is remarkably intense and complex on the powerful yet lean, enormously saline and elegant palate. This classical, rather coolish Schlossberg has impressive intensity. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in April 2024.

The 2021 Riesling Schlossberg Grand Cru was harvested on granite on 14 and 15 October and was fermented and aged entirely in stainless steel. Some of the Schlossberg Riesling fruit is gobelet-pruned to lend shade. It opens with a crackle of flinty reduction that soon dissipates to display hints of Mirabelle jelly with a lovely lemon lift. The palate is wonderfully clear, and that gorgeous Mirabelle fruit is cut with stone, precise and luminous. The concentration shows lovely zestiness. This is salty and serene. (Bone-Dry)
