Product description for Trapet Alsace Pinot Gris Sonnenglanz Grand Cru 2017 (bio)
Site Information
Located just outside the village, in the northwest, at the very edge of the foothills, the Sonnenglanz vineyard lies at an altitude of 220 to 270 meters facing southeast. It enjoys a very favorable microclimate with particularly low rainfall (barely more than 500 mm per year). The soil is fairly homogeneous, consisting only of Tertiary conglomerate of the limestones of the Rhine Graben and interstratified marls from the Eo-Oligocene period, forming a fairly heavy, well-structured, and very stony limestone soil.
Color
Light golden yellow with green reflections.
Nose
The 2017 Sonnenglanz Pinot Gris Grand Cru is extremely stimulating on the nose, with plenty of fresh fruit reminiscent of citrus, orange, quince, and honeydew melon. The ginger and floral notes are captivating, further underscoring the lively and fresh opening.
Palate
A wonderful combination of juiciness, creaminess, and freshness, interspersed with a pointed minerality. The exotic impression is further enhanced on the tongue, and the acidity adds vibrancy. A Pinot Gris that stimulates the flow and pairs perfectly with intense cuisine!

Wine Advocate
Score: 93
The 2017 Sonnenglanz Pinot Gris offers a clear, fresh and grippy bouquet with lemon and phenolic notes possibly due to a longer maceration. The fruit is ripe and intense but also elegant and completed with very fine caramel notes. On the palate, this is a rich and round, more tensioned and refreshing Sonnenglanz than the corresponding Gewurztraminer. The tannins are well integrated and the sweetness tastes significantly more moderate. The wine has a good and refreshing acidity structure and a saline as well as salivating finish. It’s definitely a wine worth aging for at least a decade or even two or more. 14% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in January 2023.
