Information about the wine

The Chassagne-Montrachet Les Baudines comes from the 1er Cru Climat of the same name. Les Baudines is located at the southern end of Chassagne, at the top of the hill. It is in the immediate vicinity of Les Embazées and the Santenay district. The soil here is white and remarkably deep. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts in a combination of neutral barrels and tanks. Malolactic fermentation occurs naturally, and the wine remains on its lees without any bâtonnage. The proportion of new wood is around 20%. Sulfurization only takes place in the last six months in the barrel, and this is done several times with minimal doses, so that the wine never reaches a total concentration of more than 35 mg/l.

Nose

Thomas Morey’s Chassagne-Montrachet Les Baudines 2023 displays a perfectly balanced blend of ripe and cool aromas. They are reminiscent of star fruit, lemons, greengages, and pineapple, buds and white blossoms. The bouquet is appealingly intense with a fine reduction, a minimal oak imprint, and the finest vanilla.

Palate

On the palate, the Chassagne-Montrachet Les Baudines is – quite typical of Thomas Morey – precise and clear, bright and fresh, and comparatively taut, clearly contoured, and endowed with a precise, ripe yet clear acidity, in keeping with the vintage. The 1er Cru is piquant, present, offers a subtle reduction, is lively and is made charming not least by a fine extract sweetness, which mixes with a very mineral touch in the finish.
