Information about the wine

Vèrtebra is the local wine in the Terroir Sense Fronteres portfolio. Winemaker Dominik Huber and winemaker Tatjana Peceric make it from 100% Garnacha Tinta. They harvest the grapes from various vineyards in the town of La Figuera in the Montsant wine-growing region, which lies practically directly on the border with Priorat. The soils in La Figuera are predominantly clay and gypsum, the biodynamically farmed vines are on average 60 years old, and the vineyards are located at an altitude of around 700 meters, which is considerable for Montsant. Accordingly, freshness is a hallmark of this red wine, which the two winemakers vinify exclusively in concrete tanks.

Nose

The 2021 vintage has an expressive and aromatic bouquet of fresh red and blue fruits, underpinned by subtly reductive and earthy-mineral notes. Typical of the wines of Terroir Sense Fronteres, the nose is stimulating and sensual; there is nothing heavy or dark about it, but rather it is bright, precise, and fresh. You could smell it forever.

Palate

The Vèrtebra has a slender body and fine-grained tannins. In the mouth, it feels elegant and light, yet at the same time powerful and aromatically intense. The wine develops plenty of grip on the palate, has a straightforward line, and displays the spiciness typical of Garnacha in the long finish. Overall, this red wine impressively combines the refreshing and sunny side of the Mediterranean: With only 12.5 percent alcohol by volume, it is light on the one hand, yet structured and concentrated on the other. The Garnacha grape is known for its high sugar content, which is why some Spanish winemakers say that Garnacha cannot produce phenolically ripe and expressive red wines with less than 14 percent alcohol by volume. However, the 2021 Vèrtebra proves the exact opposite.
