The lower yielding part of the Montals is where they now also have the new Marcenca de Montsant vineyard in the village of Montsant, where the soils have more limestone, which produced the 2021 Guix Vermell. It is a perfumed and floral wine, a bit heady and very expressive despite the moderate alcohol (13%). This has similarities with Les Manyes from Terroir al Limit, with good freshness and an ethereal sensation in the palate. It feels light on its feet and has energy and light. This is spicier, with more depth and complexity and an exotic note not present in the Marcenca de Montsant, but they do have a very similar profile. Ethereal and perfumed. Beautiful. Only 600 bottles were filled in May 2022.

The 2021 Guix Vermell is 100% Garnatxa Negra from 50-year-old vines on red soils with gypsum veins. Fermented with whole clusters and aged in concrete vats for up to six months, this light-garnet-hued wine reveals aromas of cinnamon, white pepper and balsamic. Dry, lean and light on the palate, its high glycerol content contributes to a grippy, sweet mouthfeel with mild alcohol levels. This well-crafted wine emphasizes style over place, introducing a new flavor profile to the area.
