Product description for Terroir al Limit Les Manyes 2013
Marian Henß:On the palate, it hits exactly the same note. The fruit is wonderfully intense on the palate. Red aromas in all their facets immediately fill the mouth and throat area and continue to dominate the finish. Les Manyes 2018 is delicate and playful. The 14.5% alcohol by volume is wonderfully integrated. Now it reveals an ingenious linearity. It shoots out as straight as a candle. It has clear substance in the base, but presents itself as a great Pinot Noir. As profound as the night.
Colour
Crimson with violet reflections and a dark core.
Nose
The Les Manyes, made from 100% Grenache, is very open-hearted and the nose is dominated by dark fruits. Blackberries, blueberries, and raspberries mingle with dried fruit and ethereal notes of thyme and rosemary. A touch of Mediterranean garrigue joins the mix, while light floral notes of lavender and sage provide the final chord. Be sure to decant and unpack your good Burgundy glasses.
Palate
On the palate, the 2014 Les Manyes from Terroir al Limit is very approachable, almost charming. The juicy fruit is underpinned by the prominent licorella minerality, which lends it freshness and a cool character despite its concentrated fruit. The tannins are silky and contour it with a sharp nose. A Grenache of distinction.

I had already encountered the 2013 from both Tosses and Manyes, the top Cariñena and Garnacha respectively, and was really looking forward to tasting it with time, side by side and even next to the 2014s. This 2013 Les Manyes is stunning, perfumed and floral, with subtle aromas of Mediterranean herbs and flowers. The vineyard is located at 800 meters altitude on clay and limestone soils, a true rarity in Priorat, in the zone where Scala Dei has their Mas Deu vineyard, and it might be the secret why it produces such and elegant and fresh wine. Perfumed and intoxicating, this has a beautiful nose. The vinification is similar for all reds, a short, 10-day maceration with the full clusters followed by an élevage in large, neutral oak foudres, in this case for almost two years. It developed a nose of violets with time in the glass that complemented the fine tannins and the subtle minerality. The balance is gobsmacking. 1,000 bottles were filled in November 2015. This is a wine that from 2013 will also be fermented and aged in cement.

Vivid ruby. Sexy, highly fragrant red and dark berry compote aromas are complemented by an intense floral element and hints of Asian spices. Sappy and expansive on the palate, offering concentrated, spice-tinged black raspberry and bitter cherry flavors and juicy acidity that provides spine and lift. The endless finish is sharpened by an intense mineral note, supple tannins and lingering spiciness. This brilliant wine was aged in a large foudre for two years.
