Information

Selection of the finest Sangiovese grapes from the Radda vineyards. The grapes are foot-crushed, then spontaneously fermented in concrete tanks and open vats, and macerated with a portion of skins with minimal extraction for two months. Aging takes place 90% in concrete and stainless steel tanks, and a small portion (10%) in partially new barrels for 18 months. The 2021 vintage bears the title “La Trentesima Vendemmia di Sean O’Callaghan.”

Colour

Clear, translucent cherry red

Nose

The 2021 UNO, officially a Toscana Rosso, but unofficially an outstanding Chianti Classico Riserva, smells of sour cherries and cherry stones, undergrowth and crushed rock, as well as the pansy notes so typical of Alberese soils. Added to this are shards of dark, solid chocolate, some leather, and a touch of wood.

Palate

The 2021 UNO is likely to be one of Sean O’Callaghan’s best creations in his life, in this vintage that is so special to him. This single-varietal Sangiovese possesses a tension and acid structure that was once typical of the region and grape variety and is now rare. This is especially true when combined with the altitude of the vineyards and the seasonal variation, which perfectly complements this seemingly timeless Sangiovese. It’s a fresh, exciting, almost electrifying UNO with red berry, crisp, juicy fruit and tannins that are distinctive yet polished, structured yet elegant. With this interplay of acid and tannin structure and the depth it already possesses, this is sure to be a wine for decades.
