Information about the wine

The grapes come from a 0.4-hectare single vineyard in Viñaspre in the Rioja Alavesa subzone. The plot is located at an altitude of 595 meters and consists predominantly of limestone marl and sandstone soils. The vines, trained in the traditional bush method, are between 52 and 112 years old. It is a classic blend of Tempranillo (80%), Garnacha (10%), and other white wine varieties (10%). The grapes are harvested together, and 20 percent is fermented with the stems. The wine is aged for 9 months in used 500-liter barrels.

Nose

Veriquete 2019 has a cool and extremely fresh nose, even though the vintage was a warm one in Rioja. The complex bouquet consists of crisp red and dark fruit, herbs, and an earthy minerality.

Palate

The wine displays an excellent balance of lively acidity and aromatic intensity. It has length, grip, and fine-grained tannins. There is no hint of wood at all, but the minerality is all the more noticeable. It is truly impressive how winemaker Roberto Oliván’s emphasis on freshness and drinkability goes hand in hand with depth and complexity. This is a red wine in the typical Tentenublo style: elegant, precise, stripped down to the essentials, marked by terroir, and full of character. There is nothing overripe or heavy about it; instead, it remains vibrant, aromatic, and drinkable.
