Product description for Tement Ried Zieregg Steilriegel Morillon Große STK Lage 2020 (bio)According to the new STK regulations, a winemaker is only allowed to produce one grape variety in a vineyard as a Grosse STK Lage. For this reason, Armin Tement has restructured the Zieregg vineyard. The Morillon from the Grosse STK Lage Ried Zieregg Steilriegel lies in the southwest part of Ried Zieregg. The Steilriegel is planted with a good 90% Morillon, the few Sauvignon vines are expected to be moved to the Vinothek Reserve. The vines, which are on average 40 years old, grow on loose brown earth on a 16 million year old coral limestone saddle with a slope of a good 50% and a southwest exposure at an altitude of 400-480 meters. Spontaneously fermented and then aged for 24 months on the fine lees in small oak barrels, the Morillon was bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Colour

Light straw yellow with green reflections.

Nose

The extract-rich fruit of the 2020 Morillon from the “Steilriegel” vineyard at Weingut Tement is crowned with distinctive herbal-spicy aromas reminiscent of both fresh and dried kitchen herbs. Borage and oregano mingle with ground elder and are underpinned by joyful yellow-fruit aromas of apple peel and small, plump pears. Wet chalk and salted lemons complement the nose of this currently still taciturn wine, which will only reach its full potential with a few years of bottle aging.

Palate

So, into the carafe, preferably upside down! On the palate, incredibly straightforward and disciplined, with not a single gram of fat on the hips. With a transparent crystalline structure and elegantly interwoven acidity, rich yet sinewy extract, and finely contoured phenolics on the tongue, it whistles so incredibly that one is tempted to forget the wine’s stature: Even if it’s a first-class drink for a young wine, one loses the glimpse of its greatness and power. Clearly Bruce Lee instead of Schwarzenegger.
