This Sauvignon Blanc comes from the Grande STK® vineyard Ried Sernau König, with deep, lime-free gravel soils – unusual for the region and defining the wine’s aromatic clarity and structure. The 26-year-old vines are farmed organically (AT-BIO-402) and yield select grapes for a Sauvignon of exceptional maturity and longevity. After spontaneous fermentation, the wine matured for 28 months on the fine lees in large oak barrels and was bottled with glass corks without filtration. An expressive, deep-bodied vineyard wine with great ageing potential.

Intense straw yellow, with a silvery rim.

Nose

The 2021 Ried Sernau König Sauvignon Blanc from Tement opens on the nose with profound reduction. After a brutal decanting, it reveals itself more openly after some time of reflection: the citrus fruit is pleasantly warm and leans more towards orange, zest like blossom, and a generally yellow-fruity nature. Passion fruit leaves, tomato leaves, and yellow kiwi are present, as are red gooseberries and pink grapefruit. Those who like their guests should choose the large, hand-blown glasses.

Mouth

The wine flows with almost painful precision onto the tongue and electrifies the entire palate. With enormous vibration, the piquant acidity stretches from the first sip to the long finish, combining with the wine’s grippy, tart phenolics. This lends it contour, backbone, and posture—all well-parted and manicured, dressed in the finest thread. Cedar-spicy with a citrus-tart grip and an incredibly vital appearance, it confidently shows its taillights. Drinks well for days with increasing quality.
