Product description for Tarlant Zero Brut Nature, Base 2016 NV
Information about the wine
The Zero Brut Nature is a cuvée made up of 32% each of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Meunier, as well as a total of 4% of Pinot Blanc, Arbanne, and Petit Meslier. The vines are rooted in soils composed of limestone from the Lutetian (Paleogene) period, chalk, and quartz sand. The wine was made from the 2016 vintage. This was followed by slow pressing by gravity, spontaneous fermentation, and then six months on the lees in Burgundy pièces. No malolactic fermentation took place. Reserve wines from a Réserve Perpétuelle were added to the blend. Bottling took place in May 2017 and disgorged in July 2023 with—as always—0 g of dosage.
Colour
Light golden yellow with fine perlage
Nose
Tarlants Zero (2016) draws you into the glass with its intense aroma. It is reminiscent of nougat, torrone, and lightly roasted Piedmontese hazelnuts, freshly unwrapped ping-pong balls, and diverse citrus notes of zest, fresh juice, and salted lemons. There are also clear notes of crushed rock, dried herbs, and a hint of pepper.
Palate
On the palate, the Zero is powerful yet subtle at the same time. Subtle in its interplay of the finest nuances, where the citrus notes prevail over stone fruit, nutty aspects, and rock. Challenging yet immensely satisfying is the acidity of this champagne, which, as is well known, is not subject to malolactic fermentation. Combined with the lack of dosage and an electrifying minerality, the Zero with a 2016 base is stirring, but equally elegant in its fine perlage developed over many years.

Score: 92
The NV Brut Nature Zero is a classic Tarlant Champagne. Pear, dried flowers, mint, chamomile and tangerine peel are some of the many aromas and flavors that develop over time. This release is based on 2016, with reserve wines. Long aging on lees and the blend of varieties, plus the character of the reserve wines, yields a non-vintage Champagne of uncommon complexity and character. Disgorged: February 2023.
