Product description for Tarlant Zero Brut Nature, Base 2016 NV
Information about the wine
The Zero Brut Nature is a cuvée made up of 32% each of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Meunier, as well as a total of 4% of Pinot Blanc, Arbanne, and Petit Meslier. The vines are rooted in soils composed of limestone from the Lutetian (Paleogene) period, chalk, and quartz sand. The grapes were harvested from the 2015 vintage. This was followed by slow pressing by gravity, spontaneous fermentation, and then six months on the lees in Burgundy pièces. No malolactic fermentation took place. Reserve wines from a Réserve Perpétuelle were added to the blend. Bottling took place in May 2016 and disgorged in February 2022 with—as always—0 g of dosage.
Colour
Medium straw yellow with fine mousse
Nose
Tarlant’s Zero is the entry into the winery’s champagne portfolio. And what a champagne – after all, the champagne has been aged for seven years. Nevertheless, even from the half bottle tasted, it seems young and energetic. At the same time, you can sense the wonderful maturity. It smells of yellow cellar apples and poached pears, nougat and hazelnuts, bay leaves and porse.
Palate
The palate reveals a wonderful dynamism: This full-bodied and powerful champagne delivers a powerful performance that is impressive. The acidity draws a wide arc, is present and lively. The mineral aspect of this champagne is equally agile. The Zero is vibrant, full of energy, dry and chalky, but smooth and fine in its long-aged mousse. An impressive statement.

Score: 92
The NV Brut Nature Zero is a classic Tarlant Champagne. Pear, dried flowers, mint, chamomile and tangerine peel are some of the many aromas and flavors that develop over time. This release is based on 2016, with reserve wines. Long aging on lees and the blend of varieties, plus the character of the reserve wines, yields a non-vintage Champagne of uncommon complexity and character. Disgorged: February 2023.
