Product description for Schätzel Riesling Kabinett 2023 (bio)
Colour
Light straw yellow with plenty of green elements.
Nose
A wonderfully typical Riesling. Intense and fruity. All the typical aromas appear: yellow and green apples, lime and lemon, peach, and mirabelle plum. However, it also reveals a certain red fruit, such as raspberry, which works very well with it. Freshly cut grass and fresh herbs leave a distinct mark. Lemon balm, thyme, chervil, lemongrass, and coriander are very clearly expressed. Behind these, it reveals a hint of white pepper. A clear and clean Riesling in its expression.
Palate
On the palate, it appears slender and straightforward. Its residual sweetness is well concealed by acidity and easy drinking. Slender and taut. It never seems too fruity, but always racy and precise. It’s not filling and would make a great aperitif, full of herbal freshness and lightness. The fruit always resonates in the background, allowing the refreshing aromas and this wonderful interplay of fruit, sweetness, and acidity to take over.

Wine Advocate
Score: 93
Schätzel’s 2023 Riesling Kabinett offers a clear, bright, crystalline and delicate bouquet of white, green and yellow fruits and iron-rich clayish slate. The wine is light, round and seamlessly textured, well balanced and highly stimulating in its filigreed structure and due to its crystalline salinity. Irresistible. It was bottled after eight months sur lie with 49 grams per liter of residual sugar, 9.5 grams per liter of total acidity and 7% stated alcohol. Diam cork. Tasted in November 2024.

The 2023 Riesling Kabinett was picked across Nierstein, all on the red rhyolite. Red apple and red clover are fragrant on the nose. The palate has a total vibe of herbal tisane, enriched with apple sweetness and lemon juiciness. This just flows. It’s super-slender, super-bright and sweet, with 46 g/L of residual sugar set against 10.5 g/L of acidity. The finish is endlessly, deliciously tangy. (Medium)
