Peraria is made from Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso, a native Friuli grape variety with a strong tannin structure and dark aromas. The vines are planted in the clay- and loam-rich alluvial soils of the Grave zone around Lauzacco. After hand-harvesting, the grapes are macerated for around six days, followed by ageing in used barriques and tonneaux for up to three years. Aging takes place without filtration or fining – the result is a structured red wine with depth and rustic elegance that showcases the variety’s potential in a pure way.

Color

Ruby red with violet reflections and a black core.

Nose

The nose of the 2021 Peraria Refosco from Scarbolo is as dark as its core and reminiscent of dark tobacco, roasted Arabica coffee, a touch of linoleum, black cherries, cassis and cassis leaves, along with dried plums. Added to this are some black Assam tea, bay leaves, juniper berries, and freshly tanned leather. Its complex and impenetrable appearance makes the lips purse towards the bowl.

Palate

The initial sip is pleasingly disciplined and carried by a refreshingly fresh acidity that extends far across the palate. The youthful tannins are tightly woven and tightly meshed, yet finely polished with an aromatic, tart sidekick. With a medium body, it quickly builds up drinking power and flows into a fruity, tart finish with a noble bitter note.
