Information about the Wine

The Attis winery in the Galician Rias Baixas has founded the Sangarida wine project in the Bierzo DO in northern Spain. The indigenous Mencía grape variety is used to produce the red wine Pico Tuerto, named after one of the region’s highest mountains. The wine comes from a selection of very old vineyards near Pico Tuerto, which lie at an average altitude of around 600 meters. The vines in these vineyards are well over 100 years old and grow on predominantly clayey soils. The grapes are fully destemmed and spontaneously fermented in the cellar. This is followed by 12 months of aging in 500-liter oak barrels.

Nose

The Pico Puerto 2021 has an invigorating and very fresh nose of crisp sour cherry and floral notes, underpinned by a cool, stony minerality. This fresh, red fruit-floral bouquet beautifully reflects the typicality of the Mencía grape variety.

Palate

The wine is delicately spicy and juicy, with silky tannins and a polished, refined texture. It feels elegant in the mouth, with lively acidity and top-notch tension. The finish is beautifully long and delicately spicy. Overall, the wonderfully fresh Pico Puerto 2021 impressively showcases the character of the Mencía grape variety and the Atlantic-influenced region of Bierzo.
