The DO Bierzo in northwestern Spain has developed into a hotspot in Spanish wine-growing. The most important white wine variety there is Godello, which was almost extinct in the 1970s, but has since become an absolute trend variety in Spain, especially in the last 15 years. This single-varietal Godello is a blend of various vineyards and towns, and was aged on the fine lees for 3 months in stainless steel tanks. The Sangarida Godello 2023 represents a direct and authentic expression of its grape variety and its Atlantic-continental region of origin, Bierzo.

Nose

The nose is fresh, clear, and of medium intensity. The primary aromas dominate, particularly floral notes and hints of stone fruit, typical of young Godellos not aged in oak barrels.

Palate

Some Godellos tend to be a bit too buttery on the palate, for example, when the grapes come from lower vineyard sites or are harvested too late. Not so with this white wine: It magnificently combines freshness and richness and offers excellent drinking flow with a moderate alcohol content of 12.5%. The Sangarida Godello 2023 has lively, beautifully integrated acidity and a silky-creamy texture. It is minerally, but not austere or harsh; instead, it is wonderfully juicy.
