Wine Information

This single-varietal Syrah comes from the Saint-Jean plot, located at 350 meters on the north side of Mont Ventoux. The rock dates back to the third period of the Oligocene, with stony, clayey soils. The grapes were harvested by hand on September 3, 2020, 90% destemmed, and fermented in a concrete cuvée for twelve days. The wine then aged for eleven months in stainless steel and nine months in the bottle. 2,037 bottles were produced.

Colour

Slightly transparent purple with a brightening rim.

Nose

The 2020 Saint-Jean begins with slightly reductive notes with a touch of smoke, peat, raw meat, and undergrowth. It then becomes fruitier with boysenberries, blackberries, and plums. Despite the undoubtedly ripe fruit, the Syrah appears cool, firm, and crisp.

Palate

On the palate, the Syrah oscillates between a demanding and a charming side. The firmness of the still young wine is demanding, but it develops and opens up when decanted. The tannin is ripe and juicy. The fruit is equally juicy and, thanks to the comparative coolness of the high, north-facing vineyard, also appears firm and crisp. The sweet extract and ripe fruit core, the present yet silky acidity, and the fine yeast note that swirls with the fruit prove charming. This is a Syrah in its infancy, but one that holds great potential.
