Wine Information

The La Chapelle des Bois vineyard in Fleurie covers 61 hectares, of which the Chastels own 0.86 hectares. The site is located slightly southwest of the village center on deep, weathered granite, and the Gamay noir à jus blanc, to give it its full name, is around 35 years old. After hand-picking and sorting, whole bunches were used. Undamaged grapes were placed at the bottom of the concrete cuboid, and crushed ones were placed on top, allowing the Gamay to undergo a semi-carbonic maceration for around twelve days. The wine was then aged in cement cuboids for seven to eight months.

Colour

Cloudy, intense violet, colour-dense right to the rim.

Nose

The name says it all: The 2020 Fleurie La Chapelle des Bois is a fragrant and floral wine that immediately captivates the nose with sour cherries, blackberries, cassis, cassis liqueur, and plums, along with numerous Mediterranean herbs, Assam tea, undergrowth, leather, and licorice.

Palate

What a juicy and stimulating Beaujolais, delighting the tongue with plenty of fruit, a velvety tannin structure, and stimulating acidity. Slightly chilled, you’ll definitely want more than just a glass of this gourmet delight. It goes well with spicy and uncomplicated French delicacies. The perfect alternative or complement to Burgundy, also because of its fantastic value for money. Serve slightly chilled at 15-17°C.
