Product description for Recaredo Turo d’en Mota, Brut Nature 2011 (bio)
Info
Turo d’en mota is a monument. 100% Xarel-lo has never tasted better to me. The wines from this single vineyard mature on the lees in cool cellars for at least 150 months. The vineyard is extremely chalky and was planted in 1940. The small plot near the forest covers just under 1 hectare and produced a mere 2,646 bottles this vintage – 21 hl/ha.
Color
Bright golden yellow with light and pale green reflections, with a uniform, fine perlage. The perlage remains consistently high for an exceptionally long time.
Nose
The nose offers a wealth of ripe secondary aromas and wild flavors. These are surprising at first because they are completely absent from the usual, but that’s a good thing. Turmeric and persimmon allow for a sensory journey to the Orient. Ripe apricot and mirabelle plum, as well as cloves and allspice, create a harmonious blend of fruit and spice. Overall, it remains subtle and mature. Its coolness is crucial and dominant throughout its entire course. The long aging on the lees naturally leaves its mark. It remains completely at peace with itself. The Corpinnat already presents itself chalky and stony on the nose. It has a subtle Mediterranean character, but cooler elements such as sea spray and oyster shell are clearly discernible. Salt rock and dried herbs provide a harmonious finish.
Palate
All of this is evident with the first sip. It builds on fine tannins. It powerfully opens up the mouth and immediately captures every papilla of the palate. It dominates the mouth for minutes, and the aromas linger for a long time. The acid structure pushes forward subtly, but of course, as it matures, it is no longer quite so prominent, yet perfectly integrated. The autolysis and yeasty character are also evident in the obligatory brioche aromas. Here, however, the mineral, chalky attributes are much more intense. The fruit remains hidden in the background. A fabulous mouthfeel accompanies it throughout, which could be considered a benchmark for minerality. A salty finish with a powerful phenolic structure. The fruit remains discreet, while the herbal and Mediterranean aromas offer a subtle revelation. A spectacular sparkling wine.

2011 was again an unusual year: at the end of the winter, rain was triple the historical average, and in the summer, the lack of rain and the heat made them pick their whole crop in only 18 days. The grapes for the 2011 Turó d’en Mota were picked early, the 23rd of August, and they picked 3,866 kilos, which represents a yield of 21 hectoliters per hectare. All in all, the average temperature coincides with the historical average (15.6 degrees Celsius), and rainfall was lower, 433 liters, compared with the historical average of 528 liters. It fermented in 300-liter oak barrels and refermented in bottle, where it was kept with lees for a minimum of 12 years. This is one of the years (also 2003 and 2005) when the wines suffered dehydration, and that concentrated everything, including acidity, and the wine has a low pH of 2.96. It has a nose of bread dough and wet chalk, notes of Mediterranean herbs, even esparto grass, a little riper, with a velvety palate, textured, with very fine bubbles, balanced and fresh after 150 months in bottle with lees. 2,646 bottles produced. It was disgorged in October 2024.
