Description

Product description for Pranzegg Tonsur 2023 The Tonsur comes from the Oberplatten vineyard in Ritten. The blend lies on the border of the Alpine and Mediterranean climates on volcanic soils and consists of around two-thirds Müller-Thurgau, the rest being Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay and Silvaner. The grapes were harvested when crisp and mashed together with 50% rind. After six days of maceration in concrete, the wine is drawn off once and then left to rest on the lees in the concrete until April. The wine is then bottled and goes on sale in June.

Straw yellow with light orange reflections and a satin-matt shimmer.

Nose

The 2023 Tonsur from Marion & Martin Gojer’s Pranzegg initially reveals itself as a reserved nose, urging calm: waiting is the motto, not only when drinking, but also when making the wine. He speaks in a calm tone about the maceration and the yeast storage, until he begins to chat about fruit: sliced, yellow, waxy apples, orange blossoms, and chopped sweet almonds, along with mild culinary herbs such as chervil and lemon balm.

Palate

A super-juicy entry with a creamy texture and a powdery grip on the palate. Feel, structure, and extract are the pressing themes of this wine, which eschews superfluous fruity embellishments. Everything appears taut and straight-parted, with fruit and floral notes primarily evident retronasally in the extract. The fine phenolics contribute an aromatic, pleasantly warm bass and cause the glass to refill at a high frequency.
