Product description for Pranzegg “GT” Vino Bianco 2021
The Pranzegg winery is named after the estate where Martin Gojer has been producing his wines since 2009, reflecting their origins, the vintage, and the family’s lifestyle. Located above the Bolzano valley basin, Gojer’s vineyards are cultivated biodynamically by hand, and in the cellar, too, less is more: long fermentation and long maturation periods on the full lees with the addition of only small amounts of sulphur characterize the wines, which are always bottled unfined and unfiltered. Pranzegg’s GT, made from 100% Gewürztraminer, was harvested early and trodden under foot before being left to rest on the skins for five days without temperature control. Fermented spontaneously with some of the vine leaves, it rested for six months in used chestnut wood barrels before being placed in concrete until the following October.
Colour
Silky matte orange with bright reflections.
Nose
The nose begins with the compound ‘spice’ and sets the first accents on precisely that part of the GT, the Gewürztraminer, which isn’t allowed on the label because: Vino Bianco. Mace, fresh yeast pastry with a citrus glaze, and a touch of light tobacco outline the initial aromas, before the Traminer begins to tentatively emerge behind the distinctive aromas: orange zest, dried tangerines, a touch of hay flowers, and chestnut honey give it a lively, fruity tailwind without becoming loud or even overly assertive.
Palate
On the first sip, it shows enormous discipline thanks to its aging on the skins, the mash, to which it owes not only its aromatic complexity but also its fine, stimulating tannins. These give the inherently low-acid GT additional freshness, flow, and vibrancy. A cup of freshly brewed Darjeeling, a slice of salt-buttered toast with orange marmalade, and a bouquet of flowers in the background aromatically frame it, while the floral excesses unfold almost unnoticed in the adjoining room. The GT proves time and again that aging on the skins is the weapon of choice for this grape variety, always allowing for new, individual, and highly exciting interpretations at the table, thanks to its unique character.
