Product description for Pian Dell’Orino Piandorino Toskana IGT 2018
Colour
Bright ruby red
Nose
2018 Piandorino is the gateway drug into Jan Erbach’s Sangiovese world. At first glance, it appears dark, profound, and sublime. For an entry-level wine, that seems very serious. On the nose, dark wild berries meet plums and black cherries. The cherry dominates, occasionally complemented by undergrowth, warm leather, and spices. A hint of chocolate zest can also be detected.
Palate
The Piandorino appears racy, as is to be expected from its variety, and considerably brighter on the palate than the nose suggests. The aromas on the nose are all reflected, but it seems bloodier and fresher. It certainly has tannins and structure, but is far from a concentrated wine. This is more of a Pinot Noir among the Sangiovese. It’s incredibly juicy and tempting to drink.
