The 2018 Rosso comes from the Pian dell’Orino vineyards and the central part of Pian Bassolino and expresses the diversity of its soils: calcareous clay, weathered marl, blue-grey Pliocene limestone, and flysch soils are the main sediments. The grapes grow at elevations ranging from 320 to 500 meters above sea level; the average age for this Rosso is 20 years. After multiple rigorous sorting of the grapes during hand-picking in the vineyard, grape reception, and at the sorting table, spontaneous fermentation began immediately, reaching a maximum temperature of 31°C and completing after 15 days. The wine then macerated on the skins for another 12 days before being pressed and aged for 25 months in 25-hectoliter oak barrels.

Nose

Black cherries, blackberries, and a hint of cassis outline the precisely drawn nose of the 2018 Rosso di Montalcino from Pian dell’Orino. In addition to the primary, dark fruit aromas, there are hints of mild spices such as juniper and delicate roasted notes. A fruity, joyful Rosso with unbridled drinking appeal.

Palate

Super juicy with ripe fruit and invigorating freshness, it is rich in extract and almost fleshy with youthful tannins. Deep-textured and velvety on the tongue, the tannins contour its exuberant fruit and give it its unique, ruby-red finish. Animatingly tart on the finish with an ethereal fruity finale.
