Product description for Peter Jakob Kühn Riesling Hallgartener Hendelberg 1G Erste Lage 2022 (bio)
Wine Information
The Hallgarten Hendelberg boasts 23 hectares of vineyards on gritty slate soils with quartzite inclusions and phyllite slate. The hill has a gradient of approximately 40%, facing south-southwest, and reaches up to 300 meters. The slope is predominantly planted with Riesling. After hand-picking, gentle whole-bunch pressing over several hours, and spontaneous fermentation, the Riesling was aged for 16 months on the full lees in traditional double-barrel barrels (2,440 l).
Colour
Intense straw yellow
Nose
The Hendelberg possesses the typical unobtrusive intensity of the 2022 vintage. It opens with clearly defined notes of lemongrass and verbena, citrus fruits, white tea, but also slate, almonds, a touch of smoke, and mint. It appears calm, elegant, and refined.
Palate
On the palate, the Hallgartener Hendelberg possesses impressive tension and plenty of pull. At the same time, it is elegant with a fine, creamy, yet slightly grippy texture. The Kühns’ 2022 Rieslings all appear energetic, fragrant, weightless, and yet earthy. This creates the incredible tension they possess, which is further enhanced by the vibrant minerality.

The lemon-colored 2022 Hallgartener Hendelberg Riesling trocken 1G opens with a dense, intense and complex bouquet of ripe and juicy yellow stone fruits and lemon juice aromas intertwined with slightly flinty notes of crushed stones and salts. Full-bodied, round and pure on the palate, this is a vital, remarkably fine and elegant as well as persistently mineral and saline-finishing Riesling with ripe yet vivacious acidity and seriously firm grip. This is an excellent Hendelberg with remarkable intensity, complexity and aging potential. 11.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in January 2025.

The 2022 Riesling Hallgartener Hendelberg Kabinett was harvested after the rain. The nose brims with green apples, fresh lemons and white summer blossoms. The palate then delivers vivid fruit, balanced into a medium-sweet style, fresh but boosted with fruit. The 2022 is beautiful, textured and has a residual sweetness of 22g/L and 7.6g/L of acidity. What a fantastic, balanced finish. The 2022 is lasting, fresh and vibrant. (Off-dry)
