Product description for Ökonomierat Rebholz Riesling “Im Sonnenschein” GG 2023 (bio)
Wine Information
Most of the vineyards on the edge of the Haardt, at the transition from the Rhine plain to the Palatinate Forest, face east. However, the Siebeldinger vineyard of the same name in the Queichtal Valley is located in the sunshine region; it has a southerly exposure. The vineyard lies at an elevation of 160 to 250 meters and has a slope of 5 to 20%. The Riesling grows on Triassic shell limestone soil. The wine was vinified after destemming and a 24-hour maceration period. After preliminary clarification and natural sedimentation, fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks, followed by six months of ageing on the fine lees.
Colour
Medium straw yellow
Nose
The 2023 Riesling Im Sonnenschein and the Ganz Horn swap roles in 2023. In this case, the Im Sonnenschein is a slightly tart and tonic Riesling with apple peel, grapefruit zest, and nutty notes, ripe lemon, plenty of crushed lime, oyster shell, and iodine, as well as mirabelle plum and a hint of mango.
Palate
On the palate, the wine offers good acidity with plenty of energy. Here, too, the wine initially appears tart and salty. The shell limestone combines power and minerality with a delicate creaminess, while the acidity cuts through the bright fruit with extreme precision and crystal clarity. It is a juicy, yet also tobacco-like, herbal, phenolic Riesling with chalky coolness and sparkling minerality, juice, and salt.

Wine Advocate
Score: 97+
The 2023 Im Sonnenschein Riesling GG is based on 60+-year-old vines on Muschelkalk soils. It opens with a spectacularly pure, saline, intense and calcareous nose of ripe and dense seed fruits with crystalline saline notes of crushed rocks (and there are many rocks in this site). Pure, saline and with the grip of wet stones on the palate, this is a full-bodied, juicy, elegant and textured Riesling with fine tannins and a long, complex and savory finish. 12.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in January 2025.

Vinous
Score: (95-97)
The 2023 Riesling Siebeldinger Im Sonnenschein Grosses Gewächs hails from 64-year-old vines, some of the oldest in the Pfalz. The nose almost glows with fruit—beautifully ripe Reine Claude plum appears, merging into the finest serene Amalfi lemon. All seems to sink into coolness and zestiness, juicy, stony, salty and svelte. So very long and so very elegant, this is totally precise. (Bone-dry)
