Description

Product description for Ökonomierat Rebholz Riesling “Im Sonnenschein” GG 2022 (bio)

Colour

Bright lemon yellow with light and golden inclusions

Nose

In true vine-wood style, the Siebeldingen im Sonnenschein Riesling Großes Gewächs presents itself as extremely delicate, ethereal, and finely fruity. Its fruit is extremely subtle, yet persistent. White peach, nashi pear, and mirabelle plum spread pleasantly yet intensely. Bergamot zest and kaffir lime leaves complement it magnificently. In the background, its cooling herbal spice pushes powerfully. Eucalyptus, mint, and lemon balm form the strong ethereal flank. On the other hand, thyme and sage also come to the fore in a somewhat more subdued form. It displays vegetal nuances in the form of peas and fennel. In itself, it is incredibly harmonious and complete.

Palate

Rebholz represents absolutely great aging potential. This 2022 is also a long-distance runner. Full of character and structure, it builds up a lot of pressure on the palate. Tightly woven and incredibly tight-knit. Then the acid structure snaps in like a lasso. Wah! Fruit and acidity duel in an enormously stimulating way. Its stony, chalky notes add a supporting touch, like the proverbial salt in the soup. Figuratively speaking, yellow and green blur together. The herbal, ethereal, and vegetal aromas of the nose currently dominate the aromatic picture. From experience, I can promise that the fruit will increase with ripeness. A very drinkable and lean type of Riesling GG. Nevertheless, it is full of aromatic density and complexity.

Wine Advocate

Score: 93

The 2022 Im Sonnenschein Riesling GG opens with a puristic, spicy nose reminiscent of iodine, but it also shows fragrant or even slightly overripe fruit. Mouth-filling, round and juicy on the palate, spicy and persistently salty, this is a dense, quite powerful and muscular Riesling with a salty finish. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in September 2023.

Vinous

Score: 96

The 2022 Riesling Siebeldinger Im Sonnenschein Grosses Gewächs is still reduced on the nose, yet an echo of distant fruit shines through. The palate is zesty, cooling and soothing, with the finest, bright freshness, yet totally buffered and juicy, again with that salty-mouthwatering vibe. This is so well-captured, so pure and serene. The slender, zesty, bright finish is key. This is from parcels with a little more loam in the lower reaches. (Bone-dry)
