Product description for Nikolaihof semicolon ; Gewürztraminer 2020 (bio)
Wine Information
In the context of semicolon, Katharina Salzgeber and Nikolaus Saahs explore the potential of Gewürztraminer and Riesling. How does the grape variety react when a different approach is chosen regarding harvest time, processing, and aging? Like the semicolon, which is not subject to any grammatical rules in terms of use and interpretation, but rather appeals to the esprit of both the writer and the reader, the wines shed the corset (of the familiar) and encourage the drinker to mature and taste.
Maturation Information
100% must; eight months of aging in used oak without fining, stabilization, filtration, or added sulfur.
Colour
Cloudy orange with amber reflections.
Nose
The nose reveals an intense Gewürztraminer with earthy, stony, and smoky notes. Dried grasses, rose petals, green pepper notes, and orange peel present themselves with pronounced intensity and freshness. Its aroma is underscored by a yeasty, spicy character and a puristic depth that makes you want to sink into it.
Palate
Precise and dry, the 2020 Gewürztraminer Semicolon challenges the palate; its fine tannins and the spiciness characterized by citrus and apple peel make it a fantastic accompaniment to creative cuisine with many influences of herbs and spices. An extremely lively representative of its style, it represents a wine style characterized by vibrancy, freshness, and depth.

The 2020 Gewürztraminer Semicolon, harvested exceptionally early, was fermented for threee weeks entirely with foot-trodden whole bunches. The must was then run off and matured for half a year in used barrique. The pale pink wine has a distant scent of roses, subdued and bound up with Navel orange and lemon, all tender and restrained. The palate is a picture of freshness and citric sprightliness. Navel orange peel takes the lead on this scented yet only gently aromatic wine. Subtle phenolics lay themselves like a silken web on the palate and seemingly provide a conductive network for fine freshness. This is an absolutely bone-dry, vivid Gewürztraminer that defies expectations. (Bone-dry)
