Origin

The “Im Weingebirge” vineyard is a so-called “vineyard within a vineyard.” It belongs to the “Alte Point” vineyard and borders the “Strudel” and “Süßenberg” vineyards above Mautern. The site covers a full six hectares and extends northwards from 206 to 225 meters up the slope. The subsoil is dominated by paragneiss, which here and there reaches the surface. The topsoil consists of clay and, above all, loess.

Colour

Golden, approaching straw yellow.

Nose

I’m somehow captivated by the aroma right from the first impression. Could it be due to the 2006 vintage, which I hold in very high regard? The aromatic, spicy bouquet is highly concentrated in its maturity: coconut flakes, cocoa powder, light chocolate, and roasted hazelnuts. Added to this is a reduction of dried fruit such as mandarin orange, apricot, pineapple, and plum.

Palate

The distinctive acidity is lively, fresh, and juicy like that of a green apple and passes through the tongue razor-sharp, leaving a fresh palate and demanding more. The slightly smoky finish lingers long and inspires enthusiasm.
