Deep black-red, with minimal violet highlights towards the rim.
Nose
What an aroma that reveals itself to us. Cassis, dark berries, roasted notes, cocoa, a touch of peat, and fine leather – with every swirl of the glass, new aromas emerge. Fine tobacco and Kampot pepper join in. What’s fascinating is how self-contained this wine is, despite all the power it radiates.
Palate
The 2021 Lutzmannsburg Blaufränkisch Alte Reben is a monument. The dense fruit pairs with a minerality that is second to none. The polished tannin structure and stimulating acidity are without exception, and everything seems so infinitely elegant and juicy at the same time. Not only nature was at work here, but a true expert in the vineyard and cellar. Put it aside for now and be patient, because this wine will become even more magnificent than it already is. Time is playing its part!

Blaufränkisch Lutzmannsburg Alte Reben is the wine that made Velich’s name. It is picked from between 80- 100-year-old vines. Velich says this is the “apotheosis.” A distant note of wild thyme blends in with wet stone, slight smoke and pure, aromatic red cherry. Incredibly fragrant with an ethereal quality. The palate is immediately fresh, bright and crunchy. The fine structure is so poised. The fine tannins soar with gothic ambition towards the sky. In between, that intensely fresh and fragrant red fruit shimmers, while the aftertaste offers the profound depth of fruit. This is serene, self-evident, and, in its very graceful way, monumental. The 2021 is perfumed and a statement of beauty. (Bone-dry)
